Ramzan is a time of religious observance for Muslims worldwide, and a time to honour the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad (PBUH). Here are 10 Muslim celebrities that will definitely surprise you!

1. Ice Cube

Ice Cube, the rapper turned actor, is Muslim! Born O’Shea Jackson, Sr, Ice Cube started his career in music by joining the hip-hop group CIA and then NWA and finally broke free from being part of a group to a solo artist. And, it appears his decision to become a solo artist has paid off through the years!


2. Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes or Trevor Sahiem Smith Jr is a Muslim! When he started his career in music,  the rapper and producer was best known for his feral sense of style and eye-popping antics. Now, he is a certified music artist who is known for his complex tunes and lyrics.


3. Jermaine Jackson

Jermaine La Juane Jackson, the older brother of Michael Jackson, is a Muslim. The Jackson 5 member isn’t shy about his religion. Born on December 11, 1954, Jermaine has had a long singing career on stage and in the recording studio as a producer.

The youngest sister of the Jackson brood converted to Muslim in 2013 when she married Wissam Al-Mana, who is Muslim. The following year, Jackson reportedly celebrated her first Ramzan. It’s a safe guess she will probably celebrate Ramzan this year.


9. Akon

Akon is a worldwide musical sensation and he’s also Muslim. Born Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Bongo Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, the singer is a self-proclaimed spiritual man. Several of his songs have religious undertones. In one song, Akon proclaimes,

“So what you know about how God comes first in our lives, everything that we do is for Allah.”

Shaq, that big guy who played basketball and now works in educating people about AIDS and more, believe it or not, he is Muslim. The NBA star makes it a point not to talk about his religious beliefs; however, in a 2010 interview, he admitted  he planned to go for Hajj.
