Reading a good book is now considered a thing of the past. With everyone carrying E-readers around or reading articles on their phones or laptops, books are becoming obsolete.
Nothing could be further from the truth because books are AWESOME!
Here is why:
There is nothing like the smell and feel of a good book.
It doesn’t need to be charged and has many other benefits such as:
1. They definitely make you smarter!
Dr Seuss once wrote,
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Reading a book will teach you more things than any episode of your favourite sitcom ever could. Studies show that people who read have high intelligence and general knowledge than those who don’t. And intellect never fails to impress.
2. They reduce reduce stress
Reading has the power to transport you to another world, all while you’re sitting at home. A well written book can distract you and keep you focused on a story rather than everyday life problems.
3. They increase your vocabulary
The more you read, the more words you gain exposure to. Being articulate and having a vast vocabulary is helpful in EVERY profession. Besides, you don’t want to be stumbling on all sorts of repetitive words when your beau is a walking-talking thesaurus now do you?
4. They make you more emphatic
Reading about different characters and their thoughts will help a person understand and see things from another’s point of view. This will help in understanding someone else’s mental state and is a crucial skill in building relationships.
5. They help improve your writing skills
With a better vocabulary you will have been exposed to good fluid writing. The same way musicians influence each other, your writing style can be influenced by other writers. You will become a better writer yourself! No one – and I mean no one can resist a well-written email, letter or post-it!
6. They help improve your memory
Reading forces you to remember characters, stories and plot lines. The more practice you have in remembering new things the better your memory becomes. I guarantee you will never mix-up your beaus names again!
7. They help you sleep better
Reading before going to bed helps you fall asleep, not because the book is boring but because reading before bedtime will signal your mind to unwind and relax into a healthy state of slumber.
8. They give you tranquility
It is possible to read a book on a subject that can bring inner peace and tranquility. Reading self-help books has been shown to help people cope with disorders, mental and sometimes physical.
9. Celebrities look even hotter reading books, how do you think reading a book could make you look?
Intelligent? Good-looking? Inquisitive?
Yup. My point exactly. All of those things and just plain HOT.
