A monster, massive alligator was recently caught by hunters at Outwest Farms in Florida. Talk about a big catch!
The owner of Outwest Farms Lee Lightsey, his hunting guide Blake Godwin and his son along with two more hunters discovered this huge creature on Saturday at one of the ponds on their private ranch.
“We were on a hunt for hogs and happened to come across the gator. There are natural ponds and waterways around for the cows to drink. There are lots of gators out there. It’s the start of mating season. This was a big one.”
The alligator weighed in at 780 pounds, according to Lightsey. His son Mason said that it was “almost probably close to 15 feet.”
It was so big that they had to use a large farm tractor to pull it from the water.
Lightsey’s nine-year-old son, Mason said that this wasn’t his first hunting trip, and it was “not scary at all” to hunt such a huge animal. In fact, he even posed next to the animal that was hoisted above the ground by a tractor’s loader.
The picture posted on Outwest Farms facebook page and has been shared over 4,000 times.
The company has been guiding hunts for alligators, wild boar, and turkey in Florida for 18 years and Lightsey has been hunting all his life. The largest alligator they had taken before was just over 14 feet and this one was bigger than that.
They plan to donate the gator’s meat to charity and have the alligator taxidermied for display at their hunting shows and expos.
Lightsey’s hunting guide, Godwin said the photos of the monster gator were taken with their cell phones and uploaded directly to Facebook and were not photoshopped.
Godwin said that
“It is hard to believe that something this big exists in the wild,” Godwin said. “Hunting is a way of life for us and we are very proud of it!”
