We’ve all had those days (nights actually) where we have a test to study for or an exam or an assignment the next day and we won’t study or do the assignment at the appropriate time, so the next best thing is to do everything the night before. Yes pulling an all-nighter, the problem is though that the next day you can’t function like a proper human being and are walking around like a zombie who’s probably going to fall asleep this very second. But not to worry!

Here are a few things you can do to stay awake and function like a human being after pulling an all-nighter!

1. Exercise

Doing a few push ups, lunges and mountain climbers will increase the blood flow in your body and get your blood pumping to your brain. You’ll be more active afterwards and less sleepy. So as soon as you wake up…. sorry before you shower for school get in a little workout!

2. Eat an apple

You would be surprised to know that apples are better at waking you up than coffee. Apples have natural sugar which releases slowly through the body which prevents a crash and gives a natural increase in energy. An apple a day keeps everyone awake!

3. Chewing gum

8. Take a power nap

This may seem counterproductive but taking a 15 – 20 minutes nap will make you feel refreshed and ready for the day. But be careful! Sleeping more than 20 minutes will cause you to wake up more tired. This isn’t for everyone.

9. Turn up the AC

No one can fall asleep in an extremely cold environment. Our body needs to stay warm for us to get comfortable and fall asleep. Warm environments brings with it mental fatigue if you haven’t slept enough. So look for a seat underneath the A.C.

10. Drink coffee.. slowly

Obviously, this is everyone’s go to drink when they need energy. But what you need to be careful of is drinking the coffee slowly. Drink too much too fast and you’ll be jittery, drink too  little and you’ll be tired after a while looking for your next cup. Drink half a cup every 2- 3 hours and you’ll be functional.
