The woman you see is Nargis Dutt
Nargis Dutt was one of India’s most famous actresses of her time, born on June 1, 1929. She is Sanjay Dutt’s mother.
She is recognised for her famous roles in movies such as,
Where she starred along side Raj Kapoor.
The first Indian movie to be nominated for an award in the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. She won the best actress Filmfare award for her performance.
‘Raat Aur Din’
She was the inaugural winner of the National Film Award for her role in this movie and won best actress.
She lived a full life and won many awards. She met her husband on the sets of Mother India and won many awards in her lifetime. Unfortunately, in 1981, a few days before Sanjay Dutt was to make his debut in Hindi Films, Nargis succumbed to cancer. She was 51-years-old when she dies. In 1982, the Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Foundation was established in her memory.
Today is her 86th birth anniversary.
