Smoking is a bad habit, we all know that, but even then there are many of us who smoke on a daily basis. I’m sure there are some people who are smoking a cigarette whilst reading this. It may seem like an impossible habit to leave but with will and determination YOU too can quit smoking.
Here are some ways to quit smoking.
1. Stop cold turkey
This may seem impossible but it is the best way to go about it, forget that one last cigarette because it will never be the last one. It is the most difficult way to quit but the most effective. Only 4% - 7% of people are able to quit cold turkey because it takes a really strong person to do it - obviously you don’t fall in that 4%-7%.
2. Start chewing gum
Chewing gum can help you kick the bad habit, you’re used to doing something with your mouth, chewing gum is an extremely healthy habit compared to smoking - switch your habits around! Chewing nicotine gum helps too as it gives your body the nicotine it craves.
3. Quit with a friend
This way you’re accountable to someone if you go back to your dirty habit. Quitting with a friend will make it easier because both of you can talk each other into not giving up!
4. Find another way to release stress
Go for massages, start playing a sport. Most people smoke because it supposedly ‘calms’ them down. Once you quit, you should look for other ways to calm yourself; yoga is one of the best ways to release stress.
5. Keep your hands busy
Idle hands are the devils play things- keep your hands busy. Keep yourself busy; every time you want to smoke start doing something that requires your whole attention.
6. Eat better
Start eating more vegetables and fruits, and healthy foods. Eating these healthy foods regularly will make smoking a cigarette taste terrible.
7. Make a list of why you SHOULD quit smoking
Write down why you should quit smoking, think of all the money you will save when you quit!
8. Change your smoke break
Instead of going for a smoke when you take a break at work, play a game of solitaire! Or make yourself a cup of green tea!
9. Read success stories
Reading stories about people who succesfully quit smoking will motivate you to do the same!
10. Reward yourelf
Keep rewarding yourself for doing this difficult task! It’s not easy.
11. Think of the benefits
You know that quitting smoking has a lot of benefits, think of all the money you will save! Think about your health and how much you would have to spend and suffer due to that tiny cancer-stick? It’s not worth it!
