12 Stages A Students Goes Through A Day Before An Assignment Is Due
Published: Oct 11, 2024

The one thing in a student’s life that has the ability to give him/her nightmares other than an exam is… an assignment. It doesn’t matter how interesting the topic is, you hate the idea of making it. It accounts for 10% - 30% of your total grade and whether you work in groups or individually, it is equally annoying in its own way. You always end up procrastinating and no matter how much you try, it is always left to the last day.

Here are 12 stages that take place when you have an assignment due the next day:

1. You try your best to motivate yourself

“A day has 24 hours and things change in a span of a minute. I can do this 10 page assignment. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!”

2. Plan and make strategies.

“I will wake up at six in the morning and write 200 words an hour; will only take only 15-minute-breaks. I’ll be done before I know it.”

3. Change of plans

“Crap! I got up at 7:04 am instead of 6:00. Oh well, there is still time. Let’s have breakfast and I’ll start work at 8 am. Besides, I can’t be working on an empty stomach, it’s so unhealthy.”

4. Organising your things.

8 am: “Oh would you look it that, my desk is such a mess. I should organise all my things so I can focus on my assignment more. Shouldn’t take me that long.”

5. Start working Brainstorming

11:10 am: “Okay, now that all the cleaning is done, how should I go about this? I need a really good angle for this. And an easy one.”

6. Actual working Reading up on things.

12:30 pm: “I should know what the background of my topic is. I just don’t want to write senseless gibberish in my paper.”

7.Now it’s actual working Break time.

1:00 pm: “I’m so bored. I should probably take a short break. Eat something and maybe take a nap. I need a fresh mind to work”

8. Whine about how much work you have to do.

3 pm: “I have so much work to do and I literally haven’t started anything yet. Like, LITERALLY NOTHING!”

9. Some more procrastination

4:00 pm:

- Take a nap
- Eat more food.
- Check Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and a gazillion more apps.

10. Finally panic settles in

11:07 pm: “IT’S FREAKIN’ 11:07 IN THE NIGHT AND I HAVEN’T WRITTEN A SINGLE WORD. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?! I NEED TO SEND THIS ASSIGNMENT OUT AT SEVEN IN THE MORNING!!”

11. ACTUAL WORKING! FINALLY!

“I will BS in this paper like I have never BS-ed before.”

12. You manage to complete the assignment

2:30 am: “With the help of coffee, I managed to stay up and get done with this damned thing!”

It’s probably crap but you don’t really care as long as you’re done with it, nothing else matters anymore.
