Moving away from home and embracing a new life is both exciting and a little scary. And who doesn’t want to go to a different city/country, start a life of their own and feel the independence?

But you know what the worst part of living away from home is?

LIVING IN A HOSTEL OR DORM!

It is also the best.

If you are living in a hostel or have ever lived in a hostel/dorm then you will definitely be able to relate to these things:

1. During your first year there, you can’t even THINK of your hostel room as ‘home’!

2. Sharing a room with a total stranger is your worst nightmare

3. You HATE the food at the mess!

4. You’ve survived on Maggi so long you could start pooping out packets.

5. You either become an expert at cooking yourself or you become friends with someone who makes awesome food

6. You don’t remember the last time you cleaned your room or changed your bed sheet

7. You wear the same clothes over and over again because you’re too broke to do your laundry

8. You celebrate diwali, christmas, Eid and all other festivals with the same zeal.

9. You learn new languages and new swear words, obviously!

10. There is always that one room that smells of weed and alcohol.

11. You make sure that the hostel guard is your BFF because that’s the only way you can get in past curfew

12. You can’t thank God enough for Skype and Facetime

13. Preparing for the exams is a communal affair - no one studies alone except for the NERDS!

14. You have watched a thousand movies during your stay in the hostel.

15. You can NEVER afford to forget paying your bills on time!

16. When someone is coming back from home after a vacation, you ask them to bring food! Only food! GHAR KA KHANA!

17. You always have to look out for your belongings because EVERYONE ‘borrows’ everything!

18. There’s always that one room that blasts music LOUD! LIKE VERY VERY LOUD!

19. You can sleep anywhere, any time!

20. You have moments at which you miss home and your family more thank anything!

21. Your roommate and neighbours become important people in your life

You will spend some of the best days of your life here! Trust me when you leave the hostel you will definitely be a better person!
