Captain Muhammad Sarwar Being Remembered Today

Today is the 68th death anniversary of Nishan-e-Haider recipient Raja Mohammad Sarwar Khan, also known as Captain Sarwar Shaheed. He was born in 1910 at Singhori village in Tehsil Gujjar Khan.

In 1947, in the battle for retaking Kashmir, Captain Sarwar launched an attack causing heavy casualties at Uri Sector. On 27 July 1948, he moved forward with six of his men to cut their way through a barbed wire barrier, while doing this he was shot in the chest with heavy machine gun fire and died on the spot.

Captain Sarwar was posthumously awarded the highest military award of Pakistan, Nishan-E-Haider in recognition for his bravery.

In addition Sarwar Shaheed College was named after his honour.
