The project started earlier this year when Brandon wanted to tell a story about childhood cancer to his 2 million social media followers. Stanton contacted Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for this purpose and the administration helped him contact patients and their families.

Dozens of portraits of brave stories were collected for the documentary project Humans of New York, which has been focusing on childhood cancer. Brandon describes the stories as “war stories.”

Brandon has successfully raised $4 million with the help of his Facebook and Instagram page. A third of money raised will be going to the hospital’s family support services while the rest will fund pediatric cancer research.
