Recently, the associate editor of ‘Newsweek Pakistan’ Rimmel Mohydin tweeted something fishy.
RK's Guardian piece was originally commissioned by @NewsweekPak. Once edited, her newly-hired press rep asked for £35K. We politely declined
— Rimmel Mohydin (@Rimmel_Mohydin) November 17, 2024
Later, Nosheen Iqbal, feature commissioning editor of Guardian, retaliated by saying it’s not true.
@Benazir_Shah @Rimmel_Mohydin @NewsweekPak Is that definitely true? I edited/ran the Reham Khan piece in the Guardian. No fee whatsoever
— Nosheen Iqbal (@NosheenIqbal) November 17, 2024
And then Reham Khan Tweeted by saying;
I have not been paid for any article or interview. @smile_of_devil @DrAwab @Rimmel_Mohydin @NewsweekPak
— Reham Khan (@RehamKhan1) November 17, 2024
The story behind all these tweets was that the PR and editor of Asians UK magzine Shazana Rajah who claimed to be the publicist of Reham Khan, contacted Newsweek and asked for £35K as a payment for publishing Reham Khan’s op-ed about her marriage. And when they refused to pay her, the op-ed was published in Guardian without any payment.
As the result, Reham Khan tweeted that she did not hire any publicist.
@RehamKhan1 Dear Reham, you may not have officially hired Shazana Rajah but she certainly has been acting as your UK gatekeeper. Would like

But soon screenshots of fabricated email conversations were viral all over the social media.
She has no hired PR but then who demanded £35k from @NewsweekPak on her behalf as mentioned in this email? pic.twitter.com/cPSLfNxGd1

And here is what happened between Newsweek Pakistan and Reham Khan’s press rep.
