South Indian actress and anchor, Shruthi Menon, recently shot for a bridal magazine, and the results were amazing. Unfortunately not many people think so.

The idea behind this picture was - the bride is handed some heirloom jewellery and decides to try it on. Everything is cool, until she emerges wearing only the jewellery and is nude from the waist up. And this is why this picture has created such a social media furore!

“The magazine and the photographer had a very clear idea about capturing the beauty of a bride donning her jewellery on her wedding day. I loved the concept and absolutely loved my final pictures,” says Shruthi.

Apparently, the online community has been questioning her that why did she take part in such a shoot in “conservative India”. Yet, Shruthi keeps a positive mind,

“The public should have understood… but they are not subjected to such ads for causes. I was very confident that my photos would be appreciated and taken in the right sense. Keralites have a very keen aesthetic sense and it is just that if more and more actresses come forward and pose for such beautiful photographs, the audience would love it. Yes, I am getting negative comments like how I could pose showing my bare back etc but largely, it has been appreciative words.”

To us, at WebChutneyPK, we thought the concept was quite apt. She donned the jewellery and nothing more - perhaps a vivid picture of what marriage is when it is devoid of feeling? And is just a boastful custom used to carry on a sacred union? We believe that if the custom is devoid of feeling, that is - it is forced upon either the man or the bride, it is just about the aplomb and nothing else. Perhaps, that is what angered everyone.
