Zoe Viccaji Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day With Children

Today, March 21 is world’s Down syndrome day. The world health organization declared 21st March as Down syndrome day in 2007. In 2011 the United Nations General Assembly added the day in the list of observance days.

Down syndrome is one of the most common genetic birth defects, arising from a chromosome defect, causing intellectual impairment and physical abnormalities including short stature and a broad facial profile. It arises from a defect involving chromosome 21.

Every year people contribute to this cause, several events, discussions and demonstrations take place in various countries to raise awareness about Down syndrome and about the rights of people who suffer with this illness.

21 Pakistani Celebrities shared their love for 21 days, and gave a message on Karachi Down Syndromes official Facebook Page in an effort to spread awareness about this disease.

 

A carnival was hosted in Karachi on 20th march, where children with down syndrome were invited along with their friends and family.
